Dear Friend's,
There are serious problems with suicidal behavior in most every country and conditions vary amongst the different geographical areas, each presenting special needs to professionally respond to such clinical scenarios.
Initially, the goal is to develop a first responder system that is staffed with individuals who are licensed or degreed as opposed to well meaning volunteers who are not equipped to deal with the most serious mental health problems that have given rise to suicidal thoughts, jestures and ultimate intent.
We will soon begin to liaison with various countries ministry of health and attempt to gather vital statistics and resources currently in place for suicide prevention. We will also seek and obtain permission to publish the data on this site and to translate into various languages.Thereafter ,a scientific analysis of this global information will hopefully provide valuable insights.
Ultimately, we will enjoin each nation to join us in a cooperation pact as a member nation. we will also encourage a platform to be developed outlining the joint and several goals and objectives of a united national platform.Thereafter, present certain participation proposals to the members of the United Nations.
There are many complex sociocultural and socioeconomic factors that apparently are associated with acts of suicide and amongst them include individual and family crisis events and loss of a loved one, employment or issues related to honor.
It has been shown that certain applications of suicide prevention interventions are effective in reducing mortality including the removal of certain common access to dangereous methods such as poisons.
However, there remains a critical need for the development of awareness including the establishment of crisis centers and related activities along with effective treatment of alcohol and drug abuse and the treatment of depression.
Further, crisis management programs in schools involving coping and other practical interventions have shown to have successful results for our youth.
Notwithstanding the foregoing, there remains considerable challenges in the development of strategy in addressing this worldwide crisis situation including the fact that in many countries suicide is a taboo and as such lacks open communications, strategy or a priority in the majority of countries.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO) (based on data compiled in 2000), there was approximately one million ( 1,000,000 ) people world wide who commited suicide. This represents a world wide mortality rate of 16 per 100,000.
It has also been estimated that the actual attempts are up to twenty times higher than those who actually succeeded. These rates have reportedly increased by an estimated sixty percent (60%) over the past Forty Five years. The statistics also have indicated that in excess of ninty percent (90%) of actual suicide deaths can be correlated with mental disorders especially depression and substance abuse.
I invite you to write me to express your thoughts or interests along with any creative ideas or concepts.
Best Wishes,
